Furuno is a Public Safety Devil Hunter operating out of the Kyoto branch. He wears a standard black suit and has short, light hair with a distinct side part. He works closely with his partner, Shiina, and displays a serious, cautious attitude when dealing with high-threat situations. He respects the chain of command and follows the lead of more experienced officers without complaint.

He is deployed to Tokyo to assist Special Division 4 after the massive coordinated assassination attempt on their members. Upon arrival, he expresses shock at the chaotic state of the division, noting that almost all the human hunters have been killed, leaving only the non-human fiends and devils. This realization makes him nervous about the upcoming operation against the perpetrators.

During the assault on the enemy hideout, he is tasked with guarding the perimeter and supporting the main assault team. He questions the sanity of the Tokyo members, specifically Captain Kishibe, but follows orders to block off the escape routes. He survives the raid and continues his duties, representing the more grounded and fearful perspective of a normal human working in a field dominated by monsters.
