Shibata appears in the episodes 3, 4 and 5. Is a little boy's soul in a parakeet's body, because of a treat that the hollows who killed his mother made to him. Chad takes care of him and protects him from shreiker, the hollow who killed his mother when he was still alive. After Ichigo defeats shreiker and sends him to the underworld, he performs a konso on Yuuichi, telling him that his mother is waiting for him on the other side.

During the "Rukia Rescue" arc, Ichigo and Chad meet Yuuichi in his human form, living with an adopted family in the soul society. Keeping his promise to Yuuichi, Chad lets him ride around on his shoulders while they're in the district. Yuuichi has yet to find his mother, but he hasn't given up hope and continues searching.
