All Black Clover Arcs — Full Breakdown
Magic Knights Entrance Arc

The opening arc wastes no time establishing what Black Clover is about: a world where magic determines everyone’s worth, and one stubborn boy who was born without magic refuses to accept that verdict. Asta and Yuno, two orphans raised in the village of Hage, compete in the Magic Knights entrance exam. While Yuno earns a prestigious four-leaf grimoire and a spot in the elite Golden Dawn squad as a prodigy, Asta receives a rare anti-magic grimoire — the only one of its kind — and is accepted into the Black Bulls after being rejected by all the Magic Knights, the kingdom’s most chaotic and underestimated squad. The arc introduces the social hierarchy of the Clover Kingdom and lays the foundation of the entire series: determination over talent, and friendship forged through rivalry.

The appearance of Mars from the Diamond Kingdom, whom they have to fight, shows how harsh and brutal the outside world can be. During the battle, Yuno gains the wind spirit Sylph, while Asta proves that his anti-magic isn’t just unusual — it’s powerful enough to stand against even enhanced magic users.
