Bang

Bang is an elderly man with a lean, highly defined muscular physique, short spiky white hair, thick white eyebrows, and a sharp white mustache. His face is deeply lined with age and his torso and arms carry numerous battle scars. He carries a slight hunch when relaxed that vanishes the instant he takes a combat stance.

In combat he wears a simple black long-sleeved shirt, light-colored martial arts trousers, and traditional kung-fu shoes; casually he favors a yukata. During his final duel with Garou his muscles were shown bulging under extreme strain as his appearance turned more ferocious while unleashing his full power.

Composed and Principled

Bang is observant and dryly humorous, rarely losing his calm even facing planetary-level threats. He holds a deep respect for genuine skill and little patience for S-Class ego and politics.

A Reformed Man

He evolved from a “bloodthirsty youth” who fought for sport into a humble sage who values life and redemption over victory — though he still feels he passed some of his old violence on to Garou through his teaching.

Belief in Leading by Example

“A teacher must demonstrate proper behavior” is close to a personal credo.

In his youth Bang was an “unmanageable thug” nicknamed “Bloodwind Bang,” using a lethal offensive style called the Fist of Exploding Heart, Liberation, and sending other fighters to the hospital just to compare skills. His older brother Bomb eventually defeated him in a duel to end the cycle. Humbled, Bang locked away the Exploding Heart style and developed the defensive Fist of Flowing Water, Crushing Rock, later opening a dojo to teach it.

He started as a Class B hero (Rank 77) before the S-Class category existed, eventually rising to S-Class Rank 3.

Alien Invasion Arc (Ch. 32–37)

Bang fights the alien Melzargard in City A alongside Atomic Samurai, Metal Bat, and Puri-Puri Prisoner, destroying its regeneration cores through precision strikes.

Hero Hunter Crisis (Ch. 46–85)

Realizing his former disciple Garou has begun hunting heroes, Bang expels his remaining student Charanko to keep him safe, then recruits his brother Bomb to hunt Garou personally, treating it as a private matter between master and pupil rather than Association business. When they find him, Bang delivers a brutal “lesson” with the Fist of Flowing Water — interrupted by the arrival of the Monster Association’s Elder Centipede.

Monster Association Arc (Ch. 91–170)

Before the raid, Bang attends a “strategy session” at Saitama’s apartment that turns out to just be a hot pot dinner. Underground, he and Bomb briefly halt the Dragon-level Overgrown Rover. On the surface, he faces a fully monsterized Garou in a final duel, unleashing his long-locked-away Fist of Exploding Heart in an attempt to reach Garou’s human heart through combat.

Retirement (Ch. 186+)

Bang officially resigns from the Hero Association to personally oversee Garou’s rehabilitation at his dojo, assigning him menial chores as penance.

Fist of Flowing Water, Crushing Rock

His signature defensive style, built around redirecting an opponent’s force back at them — described as the “ultimate defensive art.”

Fist of Exploding Heart, Liberation

His original, purely offensive style, generating internal shockwaves. Kept deliberately locked away for its lethality.

Fist of Biting Fangs, Killing Dragons

A combined technique with his brother Bomb, capable of shattering a giant monster’s carapace.

Weaknesses: his stamina is limited compared to younger opponents, and his most advanced techniques take a real physical toll on him.

vs. Melzargard — Ch. 32–33

Coordinated with fellow S-Class heroes and personally destroyed several of the alien's regenerative cores — proof his precision was lethal even against something built to regenerate.

vs. Elder Centipede — Ch. 84

Teamed up with Bomb and Genos to bring the giant insect down. Their combined assault cracked its shell, but it molted and regenerated before they could finish it.

vs. Garou — Ch. 148–155

A high-speed martial arts duel between master and former student on the surface. Garou physically overpowered him, but Bang still managed to crack through his monster shell and plant the first seed of his redemption — the emotional peak of Bang's entire arc as a teacher.

Bomb

His older brother and only true equal in martial arts; the one who set him on his current path, and his closest confidant since.

Garou

His “treasured student” turned nemesis. Bang takes full responsibility for Garou’s fall, treating his redemption as his own greatest responsibility.

Saitama

A hero Bang deeply respects as having “no limits,” and frequently tries (unsuccessfully) to recruit to his dojo.

Atomic Samurai

A long-time rival and friend — Atomic Samurai has admitted he became a hero partly to rival Bang.

King

Views him as “a strong individual leading the weak”; the two are also gaming rivals, though Bang is far less skilled.

Bang is reportedly the first of the top three S-Class heroes to officially retire. Despite his martial mastery, he is notably inept at video games, regularly losing to both Saitama and King.
