Dr. Kuseno is introduced as the elderly "scientist of justice" who found a dying Genos in the ruins of his hometown, rebuilt him as a cyborg, and has since acted as his mentor, benefactor, and de facto father figure — repairing and upgrading Genos's body after nearly every major fight and warning him, gently but repeatedly, against letting his hatred override his judgment.
Later chapters recontextualize almost all of that: Dr. Kuseno is revealed to be the true mastermind behind The Organization, and the memories Genos carried of a "Mad Cyborg" destroying his hometown were manufactured and implanted by Kuseno himself. Both Genos and fellow S-Class hero Drive Knight had unknowingly been operating as his pawns. The full extent of Kuseno's scheme is still unfolding in the story, but it centers on using that engineered devotion for his own ends — turning what looked like the series' most straightforwardly good mentor relationship into one of its darkest long-term deceptions.
An elderly man with a stout build, deep wrinkles, a prominent large nose, and small observant eyes. His most defining trait is his mushroom-shaped, bowl-cut grey-white hair. He almost always wears a professional white lab coat over a shirt and trousers — even to a hot pot dinner at Saitama’s apartment.
Compassionate and Paternal
Unlike many scientists in this world, Kuseno uses his intellect purely for justice and protecting his ward, treating Genos as a son rather than a test subject.
Cautious
He frequently warns Genos not to push himself too hard, worried that “youth can invite disaster” when fueled by hatred.
Humble
Despite his immense skill, he’s modest and polite — he was moved to tears meeting Genos’s new friends, happy to see him building a life beyond combat.
Four years before the main story, a rampaging “Mad Cyborg” destroyed Genos’s hometown and killed his family. Dr. Kuseno, who was already pursuing that same cyborg, found the fifteen-year-old Genos as the sole survivor and performed a radical operation to save his life by transforming him into a combat cyborg. He has since dedicated his resources to repairing and upgrading Genos while continuing his own hunt for the Mad Cyborg.
The G4 Upgrade (Ch. 39)
After Genos defeats the G4 robot, Kuseno uses its salvaged parts to significantly upgrade Genos’s strength and internal systems, using the moment to lecture him on the dangers ahead.
The Hot Pot Party (Ch. 93)
Visits Saitama’s apartment to check on Genos, ending up at an impromptu hot pot dinner with Saitama, Bang, Bomb, and Fubuki — visibly delighted to see Genos relaxing and talking openly with friends.
Monster Association Aftermath (Ch. 170)
After the massive Z-City battle, Saitama tells Genos to get his badly damaged limbs fixed by Kuseno.
Master of Cybernetics
World-class expertise in mechanical engineering and cybernetic integration, capable of building and maintaining an S-Class-capable cyborg body that can withstand Dragon-level threats. He can adapt salvaged enemy technology (like G4’s components) into Genos’s frame with high efficiency, and designs Genos’s city-block-scale incineration weaponry.

Repeatedly pushed back against Genos's single-minded drive for revenge, urging him to actually value his own life and the people around him. It worked — Genos slowly started valuing Saitama's friendship and his own role as a hero, even if the hatred for the Mad Cyborg never fully went away.
