Flail is a dedicated operative of the White-Clad, serving as a member of the Knights of the Ashen Flame. He is distinguishable by his mature appearance and professional demeanor, often wearing a formal suit that contrasts with the cult-like robes of his peers. He plays a significant antagonistic role during the Netherworld arc, where the White-Clad attempt to ambush Company 8 underground.
As a Third Generation pyrokinetic, Flail possesses the ability to generate and manipulate flames into the shape of his namesake weapon: a massive, spiked flail. He utilizes this construct to deliver crushing, high-impact blows, favoring overwhelming brute force over speed or precision. His combat style relies on the weight and destructive power of his ignition ability to bludgeon opponents into submission.
Flail functions as a professional hitman rather than a fanatical zealot, treating his missions with a cold, business-like efficiency. Unlike other members of the White-Clad who are driven by madness or religious fervor, Flail approaches battle as a job to be completed. He is willing to kill without hesitation, viewing his targets merely as obstacles to his organization’s objectives.
His most notable contribution to the narrative is his confrontation with Maki Oze in the Netherworld. During this engagement, Flail attempts to use his raw power to crush her, but he is ultimately outmaneuvered by Maki’s superior technique and her use of the Iron Owls. This battle serves to highlight the effectiveness of Company 8's training against the brute force of the Evangelist's forces.
Following his defeat, Flail's role diminishes, but his presence establishes the dangerous, organized nature of the Knights of the Ashen Flame. He represents the tactical, militaristic wing of the White-Clad, proving that the organization employs skilled combatants capable of challenging elite Fire Soldiers.
