Goethe appears during the Bount arc as the Doll of the Bount Ugaki. He is a massive, spectral entity made of flames that takes the shape of a humanoid figure with a singular, glowing eye. Unlike other Dolls that act independently, Goethe serves as the direct enforcer of Ugaki's traps within his underground cave.
When Ichigo and Renji invade the cave, Goethe attacks them relentlessly. He moves through the walls and floor, firing high-intensity fireballs and changing his size to overwhelm the intruders. Because he has no physical body, standard sword attacks pass right through him, making him nearly impossible to damage with conventional means.
The battle turns when Renji figures out that Goethe is connected to Ugaki's own spiritual stability. As Ugaki begins to lose his composure due to the intruders surviving his traps, Goethe becomes unstable. In a final act of berserk rage, the Doll turns on his own master, crushing Ugaki to death before dissipating into nothingness.
