Kantarō appears during the Asakusa arc as a small-time thief operating in the streets of Asakusa. He is first seen attempting to steal money from Shinra Kusakabe shortly after Company 8 arrives in the district. His actions immediately mark him as part of the rough, lawless atmosphere that defines Asakusa.
After stealing Shinra’s money, Kantarō is quickly confronted and restrained by Benimaru Shinmon, who effortlessly subdues him. Rather than being treated as a serious criminal, Kantarō is used as an example of how Asakusa handles disorder internally, without reliance on external authorities.
Following his capture, Kantarō is punished publicly and harshly, reinforcing the district’s unforgiving rules and Benimaru’s absolute control over the area. His treatment serves as an early demonstration to Company 8 of how different Asakusa is compared to the rest of Tokyo.
Kantarō does not reappear after this incident and has no further involvement in the story. His role is limited to establishing the tone of the Asakusa arc and illustrating the consequences faced by petty criminals in the district.
His appearance functions primarily as a narrative device to introduce Asakusa’s social order, rather than to develop him as a character.
