Taiyo is the younger brother of Aki Hayakawa. He is a cheerful and energetic child who loves playing with his older brother. He wears winter clothes and a knit hat in the flashbacks, eager to go outside into the snow despite the cold weather surrounding their rural home.

When their mother feels sick, Taiyo agrees to go outside so she can rest. He convinces Aki to have a snowball fight with him, running ahead into the woods with excitement. During their game, he complains that his hands are freezing because he forgot his gloves, prompting Aki to run back to the house to retrieve them for him.

While he waits alone in the clearing for Aki to return, the Gun Devil passes through the region. The sheer force of the devil's movement annihilates the house and the area where Taiyo is standing. He is killed instantly by the blast, leaving Aki to stare in horror at the empty space where his little brother stood just seconds before.
