Banban is an elderly chef residing in the canal city of Water 7. He appears during the recovery period following the massive Aqua Laguna storm. He is found cooking a large pot of stew outdoors near the waterways, using the high-quality salt left behind by the receding tides to season his dish.

He shares a past connection with "Red Leg" Zeff, the head chef of the Baratie. When he encounters Sanji, he quickly deduces the young pirate's relationship to Zeff based on his cooking style and demeanor. The two bond over their culinary expertise, and Banban generously gives Sanji a supply of the special "Aqua Laguna Salt," which Sanji later uses to prepare a celebratory meal.
