Genos

A young man with spiked blond hair, pale skin, and cybernetic eyes — his sclera is entirely black, with piercing yellow irises. Aside from his face, his body is almost entirely mechanical, built from advanced, interchangeable parts engineered by Dr. Kuseno.

His design changes frequently over the course of the story following heavy combat damage, ranging from sleek everyday tactical builds to bulkier, high-output combat configurations such as his Arms Mode. A glowing internal core is often visible through his chest plating when he charges his incineration cannons. After his near-fatal fight with Cosmic Garou, he briefly appeared as a shattered, barely functional torso before Dr. Kuseno rebuilt him with more aggressive, angular armor plating.

Extreme seriousness and a literal-minded nature. He rarely picks up on social cues or humor, and often mistakes Saitama's offhand, casual remarks for profound teachings, which he records carefully in notebooks.

His central motivation is hatred for the unidentified cyborg that killed his family — an obsession that makes him reckless and prone to pushing his body past safe limits in pursuit of power. He holds Saitama in near-worshipful reverence, defending his master's honor against anyone, including far higher-ranked heroes like Tatsumaki or Flashy Flash.

Initially cold and dismissive toward those he saw as weaker, Genos has gradually developed a genuine sense of solidarity with other heroes, shielding civilians and fellow S-Class heroes alike during the Monster Association raid. He remains restless underneath it all, repeatedly questioning whether his reliance on machinery is holding him back from real heroism.

Genos lived a peaceful, ordinary life with his family in his hometown until it was destroyed by a "mad cyborg" with a brain irregularity, who killed his entire family and left him for dead in the ruins.

He was found, dying, by Dr. Kuseno, a scientist devoted to justice. Genos begged Kuseno to rebuild him as a cyborg so he could hunt down the cyborg responsible. Kuseno agreed, and for the following years Genos traveled from town to town as a lone cyborg fighting monsters and searching for leads on his enemy, before eventually crossing paths with Saitama in City Z.

That origin story, however, is not the full picture. Later chapters reveal that Genos's memories of the "mad cyborg" attack were manufactured and implanted by Dr. Kuseno himself, who is exposed as the true mastermind behind The Organization. The devotion and drive for revenge that shaped Genos's entire life were, in effect, engineered by the very man Genos trusted most — a discovery that recontextualizes everything that follows.

Meeting Saitama (Chapters 5–10): Genos first encountered Saitama in City Z while investigating a mosquito swarm, and was present when Saitama defeated Mosquito Girl with a single slap. Captivated by power he couldn't explain, Genos asked to become Saitama's disciple. Shortly after, during a raid on Dr. Genus's House of Evolution laboratory, Genos was easily defeated by the lab's ultimate creation, Carnage Kabuto — a loss that convinced him he needed to understand the secret behind Saitama's strength.

Hero Association Certification: Genos and Saitama both sat the Hero Association's entrance exam. Genos scored a perfect 100/100 and was placed directly into S-Class at Rank 17, earning the hero name Demon Cyborg for his aggressive combat style.

Rising Through S-Class (Chapters 21–40): Tasked with helping stop an incoming Giant Meteor (Chapter 21), Genos used a prototype Arms Mode to try to destroy it; though he failed, the Hero Association recognized the effort and promoted him to S-Class Rank 14. Shortly after, he fought the Deep Sea King to a standstill (Chapters 26–27) before sacrificing his own body to shield a young civilian girl from an acid attack, leaving him defenseless until Saitama arrived to finish the fight.

Rivalry and Growth (Chapters 44–83): Genos repeatedly clashed with the mercenary ninja Speed-o'-Sound Sonic (Chapters 44–45) over Sonic's harassment of Saitama. During the Monster Association arc, he intercepted the Hero Hunter Garou after several A-Class heroes had already worn him down (Chapters 83–84), nearly ending the fight before Monster Association reinforcements intervened.

Monster Association Raid (Chapters 128–150): After multiple upgrades from Dr. Kuseno, Genos took part in the full-scale raid on the Monster Association's hideout, reaching his most powerful configuration to date to help fire a blast capable of matching the fused monster Psykorochi's continent-slicing energy beam, shielding a spent Tatsumaki in the process.

The Organization Revealed (Chapter 156): During the Robot Invasion arc, it's exposed that Dr. Kuseno is the true mastermind behind The Organization, and that the "mad cyborg" memories driving Genos's entire quest for revenge were manufactured and implanted by Kuseno himself. Both Genos and Drive Knight had unknowingly been used as pawns in Kuseno's larger scheme. How much of this Genos has personally learned or come to terms with is unclear from currently available chapters, and the full fallout is still unfolding in the story.

Cosmic Garou and Time Reversal (Chapters 165–170): In a future timeline that was later undone, Genos was killed by a God-empowered Garou, who ripped the core from his chest to provoke Saitama into a serious fight. After Saitama reversed time to prevent this future from happening, the core's memories merged with the present-day Genos, leaving him with knowledge of a timeline where Saitama alone had saved the world — deepening his devotion to his master even further.

Present Day (Chapters 183–251): Following the destruction of his old apartment, Genos moved into the Hero Association's new headquarters alongside Saitama. Growing frustrated with his own lack of progress compared to Saitama's limitless strength, he has since been approached by Blue, the son of Blast and leader of the breakaway Neo Heroes, and is now weighing whether to leave the Hero Association in search of a faster path to power.

Genos is an all-purpose combat cyborg with high stats across speed, strength, and tactical processing, built and continually upgraded by Dr. Kuseno.

• Incineration Cannons: His signature weapon — high-heat blasts fired from his palms or chest.
• Machine Gun Blows: A rapid-fire barrage of mechanically enhanced punches.
• Tactical Modes: Interchangeable combat configurations including Arms Mode (heavy artillery output) and the G4 upgrade (high-speed combat parts).
• Parallel Memory Integration: Following the Cosmic Garou incident, Genos's core carries data from a since-erased future timeline, though how it can be applied in combat remains unclear.

His main weakness is durability: his components have a much lower damage threshold than the Dragon-level threats he regularly engages, and he is frequently dismantled or heavily damaged in fights he otherwise holds his own in — requiring repair and further upgrades from Dr. Kuseno afterward.

vs. Mosquito Girl (Chapters 5–6): In his introductory appearance, Genos tracked a mosquito swarm to City Z and initially held his own, but was dismantled once Mosquito Girl transformed into a stronger form. Facing defeat, he attempted to self-destruct to take her down with him, and was saved only when Saitama ended the fight with a single slap — the encounter that sparked his fixation on Saitama's strength.

vs. Carnage Kabuto (Chapters 10–11): During the House of Evolution raid, Genos was effortlessly defeated by the lab's ultimate creation, Carnage Kabuto, who punched him into a wall — a stark demonstration of the gap between S-Class hero technology and top-tier monsters.

Sparring with Saitama (Chapter 17): Genos requested a serious duel to test recent upgrades, using his full speed and cannon output without landing a single hit. Saitama ended the match with a punch that stopped just short of Genos's face, the shockwave alone destroying the cliff behind them.

Giant Meteor (Chapter 21): Tasked with helping stop a civilization-ending meteor, Genos funneled his full output into a prototype Arms Mode blast. It wasn't enough to break the meteor — Saitama did that with a single strike — but the Hero Association recognized the effort and promoted Genos to S-Class Rank 14.

vs. Deep Sea King (Chapters 26–27): Genos fought the Deep Sea King to a standstill until the monster spat acid at a civilian girl; Genos shielded her with his own body, sacrificing his armor and leaving himself defenseless until Saitama arrived to finish the fight.

vs. Speed-o'-Sound Sonic (Chapters 44–45): The two clashed outside Saitama's apartment after Sonic's repeated harassment of Saitama. Genos, running on upgraded G4 parts, nearly trapped Sonic with a large area-of-effect blast before Saitama broke up the fight to avoid property damage.

vs. Garou (Chapters 83–84): Genos intercepted the Hero Hunter Garou after several A-Class heroes had already worn him down, using precise, mechanical counters against Garou's martial arts and nearly ending the fight before Monster Association reinforcements arrived.

vs. Psykorochi (Chapter 134): During the Monster Association raid, Genos reached his most powerful configuration yet, firing a blast alongside Drive Knight that briefly matched the fused Psykorochi's continent-slicing energy beam — and shielding a depleted Tatsumaki in the process, at the cost of nearly overloading his own systems.

vs. Cosmic Garou (Chapter 166): In a future timeline later erased by Saitama, a God-empowered Garou ripped the core from Genos's chest to provoke Saitama into fighting seriously, killing Genos instantly. The timeline was undone when Saitama traveled back to prevent it, though the memories persisted in Genos's restored core.

Saitama (Master): After witnessing Saitama's overwhelming power during the Mosquito Girl incident, Genos became his self-proclaimed disciple. He holds Saitama in near god-like reverence, meticulously recording his mundane habits as if they were spiritual teachings, and is fiercely protective of his master's honor.

Dr. Kuseno (Benefactor / True Mastermind): The scientist who found a dying Genos and rebuilt him as a cyborg, and who Genos has treated as a father figure ever since — providing constant upgrades while appearing to worry over his recklessness and hatred. Later revealed as the true mastermind behind The Organization, Kuseno is exposed as having manufactured Genos's core memories of the "mad cyborg" attack, using both Genos and fellow hero Drive Knight as unknowing pawns in a larger scheme whose full scope is still unfolding.

The "Mad Cyborg" (Manufactured Archenemy): For most of the series, this unidentified cyborg — believed to have destroyed Genos's hometown and killed his family — was the driving obsession behind everything Genos does. Later chapters reveal the attack and the memories behind it were fabricated by Dr. Kuseno, meaning the archenemy Genos spent years hunting was never real in the way he believed.

Bang (Silver Fang): Genos respects Bang as a hero with genuine skill; during the Giant Meteor crisis, Saitama personally asked Bang to look out for Genos, and the two have since bonded over shared meals at Saitama's apartment.

King: Initially a stranger, King became part of Genos's social circle through his connection to Saitama. Genos often watches their video game matches and credits King with a tactical genius that's actually a misunderstanding of Saitama's own strength.

Tatsumaki: An antagonistic relationship on the surface — Genos frequently calls her a "brat" for her arrogance — but the two showed genuine battlefield cooperation during the fight against Psykorochi, with Genos shielding her when she was at her limit.

Fubuki: Genos views Fubuki as a nuisance for repeatedly trying to recruit him and Saitama into her Blizzard Group, and treats her with dismissive coldness except when she's dealing directly with Saitama or Dr. Kuseno.

Speed-o'-Sound Sonic: A recurring rival. Genos sees Sonic as a threat to Saitama's peace and has clashed with him in high-speed combat more than once.

Metal Knight (Dr. Bofoi): Genos is deeply suspicious of him, having been warned by Drive Knight that Metal Knight should be considered an enemy; Genos has openly flagged how dangerous Metal Knight's technology could be.

Blue: The teenage leader of the Neo Heroes and son of Blast, who has actively scouted Genos in hopes of luring him away from the Hero Association.

"Master Saitama... if this is the path you choose to walk... I will not interfere." — Chapter 183, on Saitama allowing himself to be hit by a crowd.

"I— Demon Cyborg— will only follow the Bald Cape!" — Chapter 53, during the Monster Association climax.

"I will follow someone else. Master Saitama has already joined the battle." — Chapter 26, refusing an order from the Hero Association.

Genos entered the Hero Association's S-Class at Rank 17 after a perfect entrance exam score, and has since risen to Rank 14.

He is noted in-universe as being extremely popular with women and has been nicknamed the "Cyborg Prince" in hero magazines.

Despite his advanced processors, Genos is consistently unable to beat King at video games, usually ending up as a spectator to Saitama's one-sided losses instead.
