Smile Man is an A-Class hero and the eldest, most powerful member of the Surly Brothers, a small group of related heroes. He's lean and muscular, with short brown hair peeking out from under his headcover, and wears a red bodysuit and black mask decorated with a smiley-face motif.
The irony of his hero name is played for laughs in the series: despite being called Smile Man, he's never actually shown smiling, keeping the same blank, unreadable expression as Saitama and Watchdog Man. True to the Association's running gag of heroes missing the actual fight, he's shown arriving at a monster attack on the Z-City police station only after Saitama has already killed the threat.
A muscular, average-height man with short dark hair, wearing a full-body spandex suit with a large simplified yellow smiley face on the torso. His signature weapon is a colossal kendama, its ball nearly the size of his own torso and often painted with a matching smiley face.
Ironically stoic and serious despite the cheerful branding — he rarely matches his costume’s expression. Protective and tactically minded toward his younger brothers, and notably persistent, staying an active hero even after a near-fatal early defeat.
Origins unstated. He and his brothers joined the Hero Association to work as a coordinated unit built around themed emotions, with Smile Man rising to the elite Class A tier.
Part of the initial response force against Vaccine Man in City A — swiftly defeated, found unconscious in the ruins. Later joins a research team investigating monster rumors in City Z’s Ghost Town alongside Death Gatling and Chain Toad. Serves on the surface support team during the Monster Association raid, tasked with intercepting escaping monsters. Identified as a recruitment target by the Neo Heroes after the Association’s public image takes a hit.
Kendama-jutsu: uses the handle as a heavy mallet and the cord-attached ball as a long-range swinging weapon, mixing close-quarters and area attacks. Solid Class A physical stats, but — like most of his rank — overwhelmed by true Dragon-level threats such as Vaccine Man.
