Uzuki Tempura was a legendary samurai of Wano Country and a member of the Uzuki Family, serving as Daimyo of the Udon region during the Kozuki Clan's reign. After Kozuki Oden's execution twenty years ago, he became a central figure in the samurai resistance against the usurper Kurozumi Orochi and the Emperor Kaido. He appears primarily in Wano Country Arc flashbacks, depicted as a man of immense nobility and stoicism who gave his life to preserve Wano's future and Oden's legacy.
Uzuki Tempura was a tall, powerfully built man with a broad face, a prominent nose, a thick dark mustache, and hair styled in a traditional Wano topknot. He wore a dark kimono and hakama. In his final days, imprisoned in the cave, he appeared haggard and graying with a heavy beard, his garments tattered and stained from battle and confinement.
Tempura was the embodiment of stoicism and bushido, adhering to the samurai code that "a samurai does not feel hunger" — a claim he used to hide his own starvation while giving his only meal to a young Yamato. He chose to protect Kaido's daughter simply because she identified as "Oden" and shared his dream for Wano, and he valued his country's "dawn" over his own survival to the very end.
Tempura ruled Udon during the peaceful era of Kozuki Sukiyaki. Like the other daimyo, he initially viewed the young Oden's antics with skepticism, but grew to deeply respect and love him as both brother and liege.
The Rebellion
After Oden's execution, Tempura refused to submit to Orochi's rule. Alongside Shimotsuki Ushimaru and Fugetsu Omusubi, he led a desperate campaign to reclaim Wano, but the three were overwhelmed and defeated by the Animal Kingdom Pirates.
The Cave Encounter
Kaido imprisoned the three daimyo in a stone cave along with his young daughter Yamato, providing only one bowl of food between them all to break their spirits. Rather than fight for it, Tempura and his comrades gave the meal to Yamato.
Aiding the Future
In the cave, Tempura helped Yamato read Kozuki Oden's salvaged voyage journal, and together they realized Oden's prophecy of a great battle twenty years in the future was Wano's only hope.
Final Stand and Death
Realizing they wouldn't survive another twenty years imprisoned, Tempura and the other daimyo broke through the cave's stone door and launched a final suicide mission against Kaido's forces so Yamato could live to see the "dawn." Tempura was killed by Kaido in the fighting that followed.
