X, Drake

Physical Appearance

X. Drake is a tall, muscular man standing 7'8" (233 cm), with reddish-brown hair swept into a flared pompadour and long sideburns. A large X-shaped scar has marked his chin since childhood, and a matching "X" tattoo covers his chest.

Outfits

At his debut he wore a small black eye mask, a dark blue bicorne hat bearing the Drake Pirates' Jolly Roger, and a fur-lined coat; by Wano he'd switched to a tactical outfit with a black leather eye mask, a long cape, and armored leggings.

Zoan Form

His Ancient Zoan Devil Fruit lets him become a full Allosaurus — a massive theropod with thick green scales and a heavy tail.

Childhood

As a boy he was smaller and plainly dressed, but the chin scar was already there.

Drake plays things cold and calculating. He avoids needless violence, prefers to read the shifting tides of the era from a distance, and stays loyal to the Navy out of a personal code of justice rather than blind obedience — a code that survived even the abuse he suffered from his father. Keeping up a double life inside an Emperor's crew for years took serious discipline, but he isn't emotionless: Sanji's "Soba Mask" disguise visibly startled him, and getting trapped in the "Sumo Inferno" clearly rattled him. Once his cover was blown, he described himself as "an army of one," treating his mission as the only thing that mattered.

Born in the North Blue to Diez Barrels, a Marine-turned-pirate. Thirteen years ago, as a member of his father's crew, he was present when they tried to sell the stolen Op-Op Fruit to the Navy and Donquixote Doflamingo arrived and triggered his "Birdcage" to wipe out the Barrels Pirates; Drake escaped the perimeter just before it closed and was taken into Navy custody. He enlisted and climbed to Rear Admiral, then at some point transferred into the secret SWORD unit and staged his own resignation to build a pirate reputation — deliberately provoking Kaido's forces until they recruited him, eventually promoting him to Tobi Roppo.

Sabaody Archipelago

Drake broke up a fight between Urouge and Killer, telling them to save their strength for the New World. During the Navy's crackdown on the Supernovas, a Pacifista and Admiral Kizaru cornered him; he showed off his Allosaurus form but Kizaru's speed put him down.

Undercover During the Timeskip

During the timeskip, he traveled to one of Kaido's territories and attacked the cyborg Scotch to get the Animal Kingdom Pirates' attention, and later caught Caribou and dropped him off at a labor camp.

Wano Country

In Wano, he was sent with Page One and Basil Hawkins to hunt down the rebel "Soba Mask" (Sanji) in Ebisu Town, then helped search the capital's bathhouse for Kozuki loyalists.

Raid on Onigashima

During the raid on Onigashima, Queen and Who's-Who figured out he was the one who'd freed Trafalgar Law from prison; after his old colleagues turned on him, Drake fled to the main floor and asked to fight alongside Luffy, remembering that Coby had once spoken well of him. He later fought beside Hyogoro against the "Ice Oni" virus and clashed with Scratchmen Apoo to stop him escaping with a vaccine. After the Headliners fell, CP0 agents nearly killed him to keep him from revealing what he knew about the government.

Devil Fruit

Drake ate the Dragon-Dragon Fruit, Ancient Type, Allosaurus Model, letting him become a full dinosaur or a human-dinosaur hybrid with enormous strength, durability, and a bite strong enough to dent a Pacifista.

Swordsmanship

He fights dual-style, a rapier in one hand and a four-bladed mace-axe in the other.

Haki

He uses Armament Haki to coat his weapons and body — enough to get past a Logia's defenses or hit an opponent's "interior" — plus Observation Haki.

Intelligence

As a SWORD captain, he's skilled at strategy and infiltration.

Weaknesses

Like any Devil Fruit user, the sea and Sea Prism Stone neutralize him, and his dinosaur form makes him an easy target for area attacks.

vs. Pacifista & Admiral Kizaru — Ch. 508–511

Drake tested the Navy's new weapons and was crushed by Kizaru's Devil Fruit speed, an early sign of the gap between the Supernovas and Navy top brass.

vs. Sanji (as Soba Mask) — Ch. 931

He chased the "rebel" through the Flower Capital, but Sanji slipped away using his raid suit's invisibility in their first encounter in Wano.

vs. Queen & Who's-Who — Ch. 990

Cornered and attacked over his betrayal, Drake escaped to the performance floor, forcing him to reveal himself and side openly with Luffy.

vs. Scratchmen Apoo — Ch. 1032

Two former Worst Generation peers clashed on the Onigashima floor before CP0's arrival cut it short.

vs. CP0 (Guernica) — Ch. 1042

Drake tried to keep the government agent from interfering in Luffy's fight and was stabbed through the throat, a brutal reminder of how far the World Government's enforcers will go.

The Navy (SWORD)

He commands Koby, with whom he keeps a secret line of communication, and has professional history with Tsuru and Sengoku.

Diez Barrels

His father, whom he idolized as a Marine before Barrels turned pirate and turned abusive.

Monkey D. Luffy

Once a surveillance target, Luffy became his only shot at survival once his cover blew, and accepted him despite the crew's suspicion.

Trafalgar Law

A fellow North Blue member of the Worst Generation; freeing Law from prison is what got Drake exposed.

He served under Kaido as a Tobi Roppo, mutually loathed Apoo, and was marked for execution by Queen.

His father's name, Diez, is Spanish for "ten" — the Roman numeral X, which became his own name. He's into reptile facts and astrophysics, likes chicken and rice, and can't stand sour plums. He's also a rare case of a "hereditary" agent born into a Marine family, even though his own path turned out far more crooked than most recruits'.
