Synopsis

🌊 Introduction

One Piece: Fan Letter is a 2024–2025 special anime episode released to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the One Piece anime. Rather than focusing on Monkey D. Luffy or his grand adventure directly, this touching short film offers a fresh perspective on the world of One Piece — through the eyes of an ordinary civilian girl who looks up to one of the Straw Hat Pirates.

The story highlights how deeply the Straw Hats’ actions inspire people throughout the world — even those who live far from the seas they conquer.

The story takes place shortly after the events at Sabaody Archipelago, one of the most iconic locations in the One Piece world — a lawless area under the control of the World Government, just before the entrance to the New World.

Here, chaos reigns. The Marines are on high alert. Pirates gather in masses, desperate to set sail toward the New World in pursuit of Gol D. Roger’s legendary treasure — the One Piece. But amid all this turmoil, a small, red-haired girl dreams not of riches or power — but of hope.

👧 The Little Girl’s Admiration

This young girl from Sabaody has grown up hearing stories of pirates and chaos. Like most citizens, she’s been told that pirates are evil — criminals who destroy lives for their own gain.

Yet, there’s one pirate who changed her heart: Nami, the navigator of the Straw Hat Pirates.

Nami’s story — a woman who overcame slavery, betrayal, and fear to chart her own course under Luffy’s flag — inspired the girl deeply. To her, Nami isn’t just a pirate; she’s a symbol of courage, freedom, and intelligence — someone who proves that even the harshest storms can be navigated with a clear heart.

The girl writes a heartfelt fan letter addressed to Nami, thanking her for showing the world that women can be powerful, brave, and free. But her mission is not so simple — she has to find a way to deliver it personally before the Straw Hats set sail for the New World.

⚔️ Rising Tension — The Marines’ Blockade

At this time, the Marines are determined to contain all pirate activity in Sabaody. They are aware that Monkey D. Luffy and his crew are still recovering after their separation and are on the move again.

The archipelago has become a trap — Marines patrol every dock, and government agents are arresting anyone remotely connected to pirates.

When the girl learns that the Straw Hat crew will soon depart, she sneaks out of her home and begins her journey across the island, clutching her precious letter.

💌 The Fan Letter’s Journey

  • Pirates being arrested and executed.
  • Marines destroying pirate flags and burning wanted posters.
  • Civilians terrified to even mention the name “Luffy.”

But she refuses to turn back. Each obstacle reminds her why she admires Nami — the navigator who always charted a path forward no matter how rough the seas became.

With pure determination, she sneaks past patrols, hides in alleys, and even gets help from a few kind-hearted townsfolk who silently cheer for the Straw Hats despite publicly condemning them.

Near the Sabaody docks, the girl finally spots the Thousand Sunny, the Straw Hats’ ship, preparing to depart. But before she can reach it, Marine officers discover her presence. Believing she’s a pirate sympathizer, they attempt to arrest her.

Desperate, she shouts at them — defending the Straw Hats and declaring that Nami and her crew aren’t evil, that they’ve saved lives across the seas. Her courage draws attention from nearby civilians, sparking murmurs among the crowd.

The Marines grow aggressive, but just as they move in — a gust of wind and a familiar orange tangerine roll toward her feet. A silhouette appears in the distance — Nami herself.

Though brief and symbolic, this scene shows Nami smiling kindly at the girl, acknowledging her admiration. She takes the letter, thanks the girl for her faith, and returns to the ship as the Straw Hats prepare to sail off toward the New World.

As the Thousand Sunny sails into the horizon, the girl watches from the docks, tears in her eyes and joy in her heart. The Marines back down, and the crowd begins to murmur — not in fear, but in quiet awe.

For the first time, they see pirates not as destroyers, but as symbols of freedom who live for their dreams.

The little girl’s letter — a message of love and belief — becomes a metaphor for every One Piece fan around the world. It reminds everyone that even in a world full of corruption, oppression, and fear, there are people like Luffy and Nami who sail forward, guided by courage and friendship.

One Piece: Fan Letter is not a story about battle or treasure. It’s a story about connection, inspiration, and the ripple effect of dreams.

It celebrates how the Straw Hats’ journey touches countless lives beyond their own — how even people who will never meet them are inspired to stand tall and chase their own destinies.

This heartfelt special is both a tribute to Eiichiro Oda’s creation and a thank-you to fans who have supported One Piece for over 25 years.
