Drive Knight

駆動騎士

Supporting One Punch Man

Drive Knight is an S-Class hero whose combat body transforms through a rectangular tactical kit into different forms named after shogi pieces, each suited to a different fighting role. He's shown tearing the head off a Tiger-level Mysterious Being with no visible effort, using his "Silver" configuration's speed to decapitate two Tiger-level threats in quick succession, and standing firm through repeated punishing attacks from the monster Nyan thanks to his machine body's sheer durability.

His eventual win over Nyan, a Dragon-level threat, comes less from raw power than from preparation — Drive Knight credits extensive prior research into the monster's abilities as the deciding factor, marking him as one of the more methodical, analytical fighters in S-Class.

Drive Knight is a tall, slender figure with a predominantly mechanical body and long, spiky black hair that covers much of his head. His face is a smooth, mask-like visor with a single glowing red horizontal slit for an eye and three small vertical slits on the chin.

Hero Form

A skintight black bodysuit with white or silver plating that mimics human musculature.

Incognito

Moving through public spaces, he covers up with a dark trench coat and a wide-brimmed fedora to hide his mechanical features.

Battle Transformations

His appearance changes dramatically depending on the form — anything from a centaur-like quadruped to a heavily armored jet.

Analytical, stoic, and secretive, Drive Knight isn’t above torturing captured monsters for information when he needs it. He’s driven by a pursuit of "absolute justice" through studying new life-forms to build biomimetic weapons — and by a deep, specific distrust of Metal Knight.

His preparatory intelligence and ability to adapt to any combat scenario through his transformations are his biggest strengths. His cold demeanor and total lack of PR instincts are his biggest liabilities — the public has called his methods "garbage" and accused him of having no empathy for fellow heroes. He believes evolution is fundamentally driven by conflict, and that heroes need to study their enemies at a cellular level to keep growing stronger.

Drive Knight registered with the Hero Association about two and a half years before the current story. Before that he built a reputation as an "incorruptible" force who always shows up right when a fight needs finishing — though there are persistent rumors he actually times his arrivals late on purpose, just to collect more data.

The Warning

After the Dark Matter Thieves’ invasion was repelled, Drive Knight approached Genos with a blunt warning: "Metal Knight is your enemy. Watch your back."

Monster Association Raid

Drive Knight went dark, entering the monster-infested City Z alone for reconnaissance — in reality capturing and torturing monsters for intel on the Association’s leadership. On the surface, he intercepted the Dragon-level executive Nyan, cycling through several of his combat forms to defeat and then collect the monster’s corpse for study.

The Surface Battle

He provided aerial support against the fused Psykos-Orochi, and when his energy started running out, talked Genos into linking their power cores, forming a massive combined entity strong enough to stop the monster’s beams. Once he’d secured a tissue sample from the Monster King and his core started to overheat, he abandoned the battlefield and left the rest of the fight to the other heroes.

The Bofoi Accusation

Drive Knight met with executive Sekingar and formally named Dr. Bofoi (Metal Knight) as a traitor, alleging Bofoi let his own technology get captured on purpose to manipulate the Association from the inside.

Tactical Transformation

His core ability — a black mechanical box attached to his body that reshapes into specialized combat modes.

Silver / Lance / Knight / Rook / Bishop / Gold

His six known forms: a blade-based interrogation mode; a high-speed drill-charge mode; a centaur-like mobility mode; an aerial bombardment mode; a heavy-armor grappling mode; and a radiant-heat armor mode built to counter organic and liquid monsters.

Tactical Combination

He can link his power core with another cyborg (namely Genos) to form a massive combined entity with far greater output.

Intelligence

Advanced scanning equipment lets him read life-forms and pinpoint structural weaknesses in enemy design.

His transformations burn through huge amounts of energy — running them for days straight can drain his combat power to almost nothing.

vs. Nyan — Ch. 122

Nyan tried to slice him open from the inside. Drive Knight cycled through Bishop and Gold modes to trap and burn the monster instead — a clean solo win against a Dragon-level threat through pure tactical planning.

vs. Psykos-Orochi — Ch. 138–139

Coordinated with Genos and the other heroes to keep the fused monster from incinerating the surface. Stalled it long enough to grab biological samples, then pulled out — the fight that proved his Tactical Combination ability actually works.

Conflict with Metal Knight — Ongoing

Has spent years quietly gathering proof that Dr. Bofoi is a traitor waiting for the Association to weaken. Officially accused him to Hero Association leadership — still unresolved.

Major: Ch. 32, 119, 122, 138, 139, 143, 194.

Minor: Ch. 35, 36, 123, 124, 125, 227.

Mentioned only: Ch. 108, 131, 230, 232.

Genos

Drive Knight sees Genos as a potential ally against Metal Knight, and also as a convenient power source in an emergency. He’s shared enemy-weakness data with him and rates Genos among the S-Class-caliber fighters capable of handling Dragon-level threats.

Dr. Bofoi (Metal Knight)

His primary target and nemesis — Drive Knight believes Bofoi is a traitor and has spent years quietly building a case against him.

Sekingar

One of the few executives Drive Knight shares intelligence with directly, even though Sekingar remains just as suspicious of Drive Knight’s own secrecy.

Atomic Samurai

Openly distrustful of him, going as far as to call him "that creep."

Child Emperor

Was initially convinced Drive Knight might be a spy, given how suspiciously he vanished into City Z for solo recon.

“Metal Knight is your enemy. Watch your back.” — to Genos
“Who cares? This is how I fight.”
“As I’m sure you understand, we must study new life-forms to grow stronger.”
“The essence of evolution is conflict!”

He’s one of the only S-Class heroes never to have officially tasted defeat since registering. His mechanical nature has some heroes quietly wondering if he’s even human. He routinely collects the corpses of defeated monsters for study, reasoning that humanity has always advanced its technology by studying the animal world, and claims his transformations were partly designed to "inflict all manner of pain" during interrogation.
