Metal Bat

金属バット

Supporting One Punch Man

Metal Bat, real name Bad, is a 17-year-old S-Class hero who looks and talks the part of a Japanese bancho delinquent — pompadour hairstyle, a permanent hot-tempered glare, and a speech pattern that swaps "your" for "yer" like a pirate. He backs the attitude up with genuine confidence, openly stating he doesn't care whether a threat is Demon or Dragon level because he'll handle it regardless — a mindset that makes him brash and reckless as often as it makes him effective, such as when he smashed one of Melzalgald's marbles on instinct without stopping to consider what it did.

The one consistent exception to his hot-headedness is his younger sister, Zenko, whom he dotes on and openly spoils; he's been shown genuinely furious at having to miss one of her piano recitals for Hero Association business, a rare crack in his otherwise tough exterior.

Bad is a young man with a slender but lean, athletic build, sharp aggressive eyes, and black hair styled into a large, classic pompadour. He’s often seen with medical bandages on his forehead or cheeks after a fight.

Hero Attire

His signature outfit is a black high-collar gakuran-style jacket, a red turtleneck underneath, and loose black hakama-style trousers secured with a white belt.

Neo Hero Era

Under the Neo Heroes he wears a white-and-black technological battlesuit with shoulder plating and an armored chest piece.

Fighting Spirit Active

When his Fighting Spirit kicks in, his skin visibly steams, his eyes glow, and he’s surrounded by a terrifyingly intense aura.

Bad is defiant, hot-headed, and relentless, with a classic delinquent’s attitude — he talks back to superiors and monsters alike. Underneath it, his real motivation is simple: the safety and happiness of his little sister, Zenko. He also carries a strong sense of professional duty, refusing to back down from a fight no matter how injured he is.

His willpower is his greatest strength — he can force broken bones to move and ignore internal hemorrhaging through sheer focus. That same recklessness is his biggest flaw, since he tends to charge in without a plan, which technique-based fighters like Garou can exploit.

He’s made one hard rule for himself: never fight in front of Zenko. His battle alongside Garou against Sage Centipede forced him to acknowledge the value of teamwork over pure individual strength, and his move to the Neo Heroes shows a growing pragmatism about his family’s future.

Bad entered the Hero Association at the very bottom, Class C, Rank 223, and performed mediocrely on the standard assessments. But the Association noticed he could effortlessly dispatch Demon-level threats on his own, and that rare talent earned him a direct promotion straight to S-Class. Before the story begins, he’d already built a reputation in City S for handling centipede-related outbreaks.

Alien Invasion

Metal Bat helped defend City A, fighting the multi-headed alien Melzargard alongside Silverfang, Atomic Samurai, and Puri-Puri Prisoner and helping destroy its regenerative cores.

The Centipede Outbreak

Assigned as a bodyguard for Hero Association executive Narinki and his son Waganma, Bad defeated Junior Centipede and the Demon-level Senior Centipede before taking on the Dragon-level Elder Centipede — suffering massive trauma but refusing to fall, until the fight was interrupted by Garou.

vs. Garou

Already wrecked from the Elder Centipede fight, Bad was ambushed by Garou. He was outmatched by technique at first, but his Fighting Spirit let him nearly land a finishing blow — one that would have killed the Hero Hunter — before his sister Zenko stopped him at the last second.

The Monster Association War

Hospitalized for most of the underground infiltration due to the severity of his wounds, Bad broke out of his hospital bed to reach the final surface battle in City Z. There he and a partially monsterized Garou unintentionally synced their fighting styles into a state of "Resonance," letting Bad shatter Sage Centipede’s shell while Garou tore out its regeneration core.

The Neo Heroes Era

Disillusioned with the Hero Association’s management and tempted by better pay to secure Zenko’s future, Bad joined the Neo Heroes as a leader. He’s currently operating as a mole from within, investigating the suspicious nature of their battlesuits for the Association.

Fighting Spirit

His core ability. The more damage he takes or the angrier he gets, the more his physical power and speed increase, with no known ceiling — letting him ignore broken bones and fight through lethal exhaustion.

Indestructible Bat

A gray metal bat commissioned specifically for him by the Hero Association, able to withstand impacts that would shatter ordinary steel.

Superhuman Physicality

Even without Fighting Spirit active, his bat swings hit hard enough to create shockwaves that liquefy monsters.

Dragon Pummeling

A rapid-fire flurry of heavy bat strikes.

Savage Tornado

A high-speed spinning attack that turns him into a whirlwind of metal, shredding everything nearby.

Enhanced Senses

He’s shown the ability to detect underground vibrations from monsters, as seen during his time in City S.

vs. Melzargard — Ch. 32–35

Coordinated with the rest of the S-Class team to find the alien's weakness — a rare proof he could actually work in a team environment.

vs. Senior Centipede — Ch. 54–55

Fought a centipede with armor no normal weapon could dent. Shattered its shell and head anyway — solo, no help needed against a high-Demon-level threat.

vs. Garou — Ch. 57–58

Already wounded, tried to stop the Hero Hunter anyway. Zenko stopped him right as he was about to land the killing blow — the fight that revealed both how Fighting Spirit works and exactly where Bad's moral line sits.

vs. Sage Centipede — Ch. 162–164

Teamed up with Garou against a monster miles long. Their "Resonance" took it down together — Bad's single greatest feat of endurance and synchronization.

Major: Ch. 54, 55, 56, 57, 58, 162, 163.

Minor: Ch. 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50, 77, 89, 90, 151, 153, 154, 155, 156, 157, 164, 186.

Mentioned only: Ch. 38, 95, 122, 191, 230, 232.

Zenko

His younger sister and the person he loves most — the only one who can truly rein in his temper. During his duel with Garou, she stopped him from delivering what would have been a fatal blow just by yelling at him. Bad’s move to the Neo Heroes was largely about securing a better future for her schooling.

Garou

A fierce rival turned begrudging tactical partner. They tried to kill each other during the Hero Hunt, but during the Sage Centipede battle their fighting styles synced into "Resonance," amplifying both their power.

King

Bad holds King in high regard as a modest, reliable hero. The two worked together during the Monster Association War to escort the hostage Waganma to safety.

Superalloy Darkshine

After Darkshine’s psychological collapse, Bad stepped up to encourage him, telling him "real bad-asses have a reassuring aura" and pushing him toward his new role as a Neo Heroes trainer.

Silverfang, Atomic Samurai, and Puri-Puri Prisoner

Bad coordinated with these three at a high level during the alien invasion to find and destroy Melzargard’s regenerative cores.

Sekingar & Sitch

Sekingar recruited Bad for a top-secret mole mission inside the Neo Heroes to dig up evidence of corruption; Sitch is one of the few people trusted enough to run point on it.

Tama

His beloved cat, whom he worried about constantly during the monster outbreak because she was due to give birth.

Waganma

The executive’s son Bad served as bodyguard for. He took the boy’s kidnapping as a personal failure, which is part of what drove him to break out of the hospital and rejoin the fight.

“I’m only concerned with Zenko and my cat.”
“Fighting spirit is all I need!”
“If she sees me fighting, she’ll never let me hear the end of it!” — on Zenko
“I ain’t smart, so I can’t explain it well, but real bad-asses have a reassuring aura.” — to Superalloy Darkshine

Bad rose from the very bottom of Class C to S-Class on combat ability alone. He specifically told the Association he’d only accept the promotion if they gave him a bat that would never break. His "resonance" with Garou is a rare phenomenon where two opposite fighting styles — one technical, one raw — amplify each other. Despite the "meathead" reputation, he’s currently working as a mole inside the Neo Heroes to dig up evidence of corruption.
