Watchdog Man is the S-Class hero permanently assigned to protect Q-City, a role he handles so thoroughly and so quietly that other heroes are often surprised by how little is left for them to do there. Before the modern S-Class was formed, he was ranked far down the C-Class list at Rank 301; his eventual promotion reflects raw fighting ability rather than public profile.
He wears a full-body dog costume with his face exposed through the suit's mouth opening, and carries a blank, uninterested expression that matches his near-total silence — he rarely speaks in any of his appearances. Despite the low-key presentation, he possesses enormous raw physical strength, capable of tearing monsters apart with his bare hands, and he held his own against the hero hunter Garou in Q-City with strength to spare.
A blank, deadpan face with large circular eyes and a small mouth, visible through the open mouth of a full-body white dog costume complete with tail and paws. Almost always seen sitting on a stone pedestal in Watchdog Plaza, mimicking a guard dog’s posture. His appearance never changes, even after intense combat.
Stoic, laconic, and emotionally detached — he rarely speaks beyond mundane needs like being “sleepy” or filing terse status reports. Shows zero interest in fame or hero politics (he refuses autographs despite a large fanbase), and holds an absolute belief in territorial defense: he will not chase an enemy past City Q’s borders once they’ve been driven out.
Started as a Class C, Rank 301 hero who ignored the ranking system entirely and simply fought monsters at his own pace. The Association eventually recognized him as one of its founding "rare talents" and inducted him into the newly created S-Class.
During a massive simultaneous monster outbreak, single-handedly wipes out 30 monsters in City Q — including several Demon-level threats — before the Hero Association can even sound the alarm, then sits calmly on the pile of corpses while fans take photos. Later, Garou travels to City Q specifically to challenge him; Watchdog-man effortlessly parries the Fist of Flowing Water, Crushing Rock with his quadrupedal, animalistic combat style, overwhelms Garou, and drives him out — but stops the instant Garou crosses the city border, letting him escape. When the Monster Association raid is called, he and Metal Knight are the only S-Class heroes who refuse the summons, staying to guard City Q instead. Later reports note that even his legendary sense of smell failed to detect Amai Mask’s true monster nature during their limited interactions.
Wild Combat Style: fights on all fours in a style "designed for monsters," making it unreadable to human martial artists like Garou. Superhuman Speed: estimated at 250 km/h, able to clear a city of monsters in as little as 41 seconds. Extraordinary Strength: casually tears apart Demon-level monsters bare-handed. Enhanced Senses: can smell out any monster presence anywhere in City Q. His one real weakness is territorial: he will not fight beyond City Q’s borders, leaving the rest of the world without him.
vs. 30 Monsters — Ch. 67
City Q got hit by a wave of monsters, several rated Disaster Level: Demon, all at once. Every one of them was dead within minutes, and Watchdog-man was found sitting on the pile, completely uninjured — proof of exactly why he's called City Q's Guardian Angel.
vs. Garou — Ch. 77
Garou tried to "hunt" him with a straight martial arts duel. Watchdog-man overwhelmed him with raw speed and a fighting style that didn't follow any human rulebook — Garou's first real loss against a hero, and the fight that forced him to admit his technique still had gaps.
Major: Ch. 28 (bonus), 67, 77. Minor: Ch. 20, 21, 30, 31, 32. Mentioned only: Ch. 38, 92, 95, 122, 219.
Garou: initially dismissed him as "just a dork in an animal suit," then admitted after their fight that he was "inhuman" and that he was lucky to escape. Hero Association: considers him "super reliable" but hard to manage given his refusal to leave his post. Civilians of City Q: idolize him as a "Guardian Angel" and unofficial town mascot. Amai Mask: notably, his sharp nose never caught Amai Mask’s monster nature.
“I’m sleepy.”
“Nothing unusual.” — the entirety of his typical investigation report
One of the only S-Class heroes who refuses all merchandise/autograph requests. City Q has the lowest casualty rate in the world specifically because of him, despite being a monster "hot zone."
