Atomic Samurai

アトミック侍

Supporting One Punch Man

Atomic Samurai, real name Kamikaze, is the S-Class Rank 4 hero and leader of the Council of Swordmasters, the team of elite swordfighters that includes his disciples Iaian, Okamaitachi, and Bushidrill. Long black hair tied in a topknot, sunken cheeks, a small goatee, and a hooded cloak marked with an atom symbol give him an unmistakable silhouette, and he fights with a pair of katana at his hip.

He's openly prideful, acknowledging only strength he respects — he famously refused to shake Saitama's hand on their first meeting, telling him he'd only greet him properly once he climbed higher in the S-Class rankings — and he's noticeably touchy about being called old.

A tall man in his late 30s with a lean, athletic build, dark spiky hair tied in a topknot/ponytail, sharp eyes, and a small goatee. Almost always seen with a stalk of dried grass or a toothpick in his mouth to maintain his “hard-boiled” expression.

He wears a traditional samurai outfit: light-colored gi, dark hakama, and a dark haori draped like a cape, bearing a circular sun crest on the back. After the Monster Association raid he carries two swords — his standard katana and the legendary Sun Blade.

Arrogant but Traditional

Kamikaze sees himself as a “hard-boiled hero with a warm heart,” fiercely protective of his disciples and dutiful toward his fellow Council of Swordsmen.

Rank-Conscious, Slowly Softening

He initially dismissed heroes of lower rank outright, but grew more willing to respect genuine skill regardless of official status after the Monster Association War and encounters with anomalous strength like King’s and Saitama’s.

Overconfident in His Blade

His greatest flaw: over-reliance on the Atomic Slash, which proved to be exactly the wrong tool against a regenerating, multiplying opponent like Black Spermatozoon.

Kamikaze spent most of his life training with the Council of Swordsmen, guarding ancient swordsmanship secrets alongside masters like Nichirin, Amahare, and Zanbai. He was scouted into the Hero Association by Jinzuren and quickly rose to the top of Class S, later opening his own dojo where he trained Iaian, Okamaitachi, and Bushi Drill as his support team.

Alien Invasion Arc (Ch. 32–37)

Defends City A against the Dark Matter Thieves, fighting the multi-headed Melzargard alongside Bang, Metal Bat, and Puri-Puri Prisoner until the group finds and destroys its regeneration cores.

The Traitor of the Council (Ch. 69)

At a Council of Swordsmen meeting about the rising Hero Hunter threat, fellow member Haragiri reveals he’s eaten a Monster Cell; Atomic Samurai kills him with a single draw before Haragiri can even clear his scabbard.

Monster Association Raid (Ch. 94–111)

Effortlessly dices the Demon-level Rhino Wrestler after his disciples fail to even mark it, dismantles the analysis robot G5, then is lured into a losing fight against Black Spermatozoon — his slashing style backfires against an enemy that multiplies with every cut, and he needs rescue.

The Sun Blade (Ch. 155+)

Dying Council master Nichirin entrusts him with the legendary Sun Blade; wielding it, he manages to cut the supposedly invincible Golden Spermatozoon, though the blade’s energy drain leaves him exhausted.

Post-War / The Apple Incident (Ch. 186–190)

Challenges King to a duel to measure his power via cutting an apple; King, too frightened to even draw the sword, simply stands still. Atomic Samurai misreads this as a cut so precise the apple “didn’t even know it was cut,” and is humbled.

Transcendent Swordsmanship

Considered the fastest, most skilled swordsman in the world, capable of hundreds of slashes within a fraction of a second.

Atomic Slash

His signature cross-hatch of slashes, capable of reducing an opponent to dust instantly. Also uses Air Slash (ranged vacuum-wave cuts) and Focus Slash (cutting through the literal gaps between a target’s atoms).

The Sun Blade

A legendary, seemingly sentient artifact that chooses its wielder, granting immense “Ki” and the ability to cut almost anything — at the cost of draining the wielder’s vitality.

Weakness: primarily a close-to-mid-range fighter who struggles badly against “infinite” regenerative opponents, where cutting is actively counterproductive.

vs. Melzargard — Ch. 32

Coordinated with Bang and the rest of the S-Class team to bring the alien executive down — a rare show of teamwork despite his ego.

vs. Haragiri — Ch. 69

A high-speed duel between master swordsmen. Killed him instantly, proving his speed outclassed a fully monsterized opponent.

vs. Black Spermatozoon — Ch. 111–114

A brutal war of attrition inside the Monster Association base. Overwhelmed by the monster's endless clones — his first real loss, and the push that sent him looking for new ways to grow stronger.

vs. King — Ch. 189–190

An “intellectual” test of skill built around an apple — one Atomic Samurai conceded, thanks to a total misread of King's inaction. Left him convinced there are feats out there beyond anything he currently understands.

Major appearances: Ch. 32, 33, 69, 94, 103, 108, 111, 155, 186–190.

Minor appearances: Ch. 30, 31, 38, 43, 80, 124, 131, 147, 171.

Mentioned only: Ch. 15, 117, 222.

His Disciples (Iaian, Okamaitachi, Bushi Drill)

Three Class A heroes he trains with a stern, “hard-boiled” mentorship style, expecting all three to eventually reach Class S.

Bang (Silverfang)

Primary rival and long-time friend — Atomic Samurai has admitted he became a hero specifically to rival Bang.

King

Regarded with near-total reverence as a “divine” master of the blade, a belief cemented by the misunderstood “apple incident.”

Saitama

Initially dismissed outright — famously refused to shake his hand for being “only” Class B — though he’s begun hearing rumors of the Bald Cape’s real strength.

The Council of Swordsmen

His true professional and social circle, including senior master Nichirin (who entrusted him the Sun Blade) and the late traitor Haragiri, whom he personally executed.

“I only shake hands with the strong. You’re Class B, so don’t get the wrong idea.” — to Saitama
“Atomic Samurai cometh! The hard-boiled hero with a warm heart!”
“Bye. It’s been nice dicing you.”
“I had no idea that another man existed capable of the godly feat... of passing the blade between atoms.” — regarding King

He is the only S-Class hero on record to explicitly refuse a friendly gesture from Saitama purely over rank. Despite his defeat by Black Spermatozoon, he’s still consistently ranked among the top five most physically destructive heroes in the Association.
