Yonegoro Nusumi is one of the names Teru Mikami writes into what he believes is the real Death Note during the SPK’s final push against Kira in January 2010. His scheduled execution never happens — the notebook Mikami used had already been swapped for a forgery — making him part of the evidence that finally exposes Light Yagami.
On January 26, 2010, Mikami visits a safe deposit box to write Kiyomi Takada’s name in the real notebook, while also filling a page with other names — including Nusumi’s — to keep up the appearance of Kira’s usual daily executions. Nusumi is scheduled to die of a heart attack the next day, but because SPK agent Stephen Gevanni had already replaced the real notebook with a perfect duplicate, nothing happens. Near later uses his survival, along with the rest of the list, as definitive proof that Mikami’s notebook had been neutralized — evidence that helps expose Light Yagami as Kira at the Yellowbox Warehouse.
