A world-renowned scientist, he once worked on the outlawed MADS research team alongside Dr. Vegapunk, where they co-discovered the "Bloodline Elements" — the blueprints of life itself. Driven by an obsession with restoring the Germa Kingdom's former glory and retaking the North Blue, Judge used genetic engineering on his own children to turn them into emotionless "ultimate soldiers," a decision that left Sanji deeply traumatized and contributed to the death of his wife, Vinsmoke Sora.

Decades ago, Judge worked in the outlawed research group MADS alongside Dr. Vegapunk, Caesar Clown, and Queen; their discovery of the Bloodline Elements let him master cloning and genetic modification. He used that science to modify his unborn quadruplet sons — Ichiji, Niji, Sanji, and Yonji — into superhuman soldiers with iron-hard exoskeletons and no emotions. His wife Sora opposed the plan and took a drug to counteract it, which preserved Sanji's heart but eventually cost her her life. When Sanji failed to develop the intended superhuman traits, Judge imprisoned him in an iron mask and faked his death to hide his shame. He spent the following years leading Germa 66 through various wars, including ending a long conflict on Brock Collie Island shortly before arriving at Whole Cake Island.
The Reunion
Judge reunited with Sanji at Germa Castle and challenged him to a duel to enforce the political marriage to Charlotte Pudding, using his Raid Suit's technology to defeat him and threatening Zeff's life to guarantee compliance.
