Lightning Max is an A-Class hero ranked 19th (later 20th) in the Hero Association. He is a martial artist who utilizes gunpowder-charged shoes to deliver explosive kicks, allowing him to move at high speeds and hit with devastating force. He first appears during the exam arc, where he acts as an examiner for Genos and Saitama.

During the Deep Sea King invasion, Max responds to the emergency call in J-City. He encounters the Deep Sea King and attempts to engage him using his signature "Lightning Kick." However, the monster is far too durable, and Max is quickly overpowered, suffering a brutal defeat when the Sea King throws him through a building.

Max returns during the Super Fight tournament to compete as a martial artist. Although he is eliminated by Suiryu, he later demonstrates true heroism by putting his life on the line to protect the crowd from the monster Gouketsu. Despite being terrified and outmatched, he fights to buy time for the civilians to escape, earning Suiryu's respect.
