Eriko Aizawa is the wife of Task Force member Shuichi Aizawa. She barely appears in the story, but her role matters: she’s the reminder that the detectives chasing Kira have families waiting for them at home, families they’re constantly forced to keep at a distance for their own safety. She raises their daughter, Yumi, largely alone during Shuichi’s long absences, and remains his main reason for wanting to see the case through and come home safe.
During the Yotsuba Arc, the strain of the investigation pushes Shuichi to a breaking point, and he briefly steps away from the case to spend a rare day off with his family. Eriko is in the park with Yumi when he arrives to surprise them; caught off guard, she tells him she “didn’t buy dinner for three,” delighted all the same to have him home. Watching her husband break down in relief and stress in front of their daughter, Eriko becomes the quiet witness to what the case has actually cost him. She doesn’t appear again directly, but stays the reason Shuichi keeps going once he rejoins the investigation.
