Shingo Midou is the Yotsuba Eight’s voice of caution — the one consistently pushing for restraint to avoid drawing L’s attention, and sharp enough to privately suspect Kyosuke Higuchi is the one actually holding the notebook. His intellect doesn’t save him: once Light regains the Death Note, Midou is executed with the rest of the surviving Eight to erase every witness to the conspiracy.

Analytical and cautious, frequently the voice of reason during the Yotsuba “death meetings,” questioning whether their killing spree can stay sustainable without attracting L. He looks down on Higuchi’s crude, impulsive approach, preferring calculated precision to brute force, and treats Kira’s power as a purely practical tool rather than anything divine.
The son of Eigo Midou, a member of Japan’s House of Councilors, Shingo graduated from To-oh University’s law department and rode both his family connections and academic pedigree to Vice President of Corporate Strategy at Yotsuba. He was an avid fencer outside of work.
Midou joins the Yotsuba Eight’s secret weekly meetings in 2004, helping strategize which rivals to have Kira kill for the company’s benefit. When the group hires the detective Eraldo Coil (secretly L) to find their pursuer, Midou is impressed by Coil’s deductions but stays wary of exactly how much he might uncover. As the meetings progress, Midou privately meets with Reiji Namikawa and Takeshi Ooi to discuss his suspicion that Higuchi is the one actually holding the power. After Higuchi’s capture and Light’s full recovery of the notebook, Light eliminates every remaining Yotsuba witness; Midou dies of a heart attack on April 10, 2005.
