Zerhogie is one of the many Shinigami who never bothers descending to the human world, content to stay in his own realm watching Earth from a distance and gambling to pass the centuries. His hook-and-chain-covered design makes him one of the more visually distinct background Shinigami, but his role in the story is purely as commentary — a voice from the crowd mocking Ryuk for getting attached to a human.
A skeletal, greyish-white body with an elongated, skull-like face, and numerous metal hooks and chains that look permanently embedded in his torso and limbs, giving him a heavy, “tortured” appearance. Spindly-framed, usually seen crouched or hovering low to the ground, with dark, sunken eyes.
Apathetic and faintly superior toward the human world, which he calls a “rotten mess” — typical of most Shinigami. He’s openly amused or dismissive of Shinigami who get too involved with humans, and passes his time gossiping and gambling with other background Shinigami like Gook and Deridovely.
Zerhogie is present when Ryuk first complains about the boredom of the Shinigami Realm and departs for the human world. Years later, he’s among the group watching Earth through the realm’s “holes,” mocking the fact that Ryuk has effectively become a human’s pet. When Sidoh later realizes his own notebook is missing, Zerhogie watches his search with detached amusement, and remains in the realm long after Light Yagami’s death as C-Kira briefly emerges.
