“Noriko” is actually two separate names in the story’s records: Noriko Ueshita, a victim of the post-Light copycat killer Near dismisses as “C-Kira,” and Ashikaga Noriko, one of the names Teru Mikami writes into a forged Death Note during the SPK’s final push against Kira. One dies; the other survives, and together they end up as data points in two separate investigations years apart.
The C-Kira Incident
Years after Light Yagami’s death, a new Death Note user — given to a human by the Shinigami Midora — starts killing only people who’ve publicly asked to die. Noriko Ueshita is one of them; her name is written with no cause of death specified, so she dies of a heart attack. Near later uses cases like hers to conclude this new Kira is a “cheap” copy with none of the original’s conviction.
The X-Kira Judgments
On January 26, 2010, Teru Mikami writes a list of names, including Ashikaga Noriko, into what he believes is the real Death Note to keep up the appearance of Kira’s usual activity. She’s scheduled to die the next morning at 5:07 AM — but because SPK agent Stephen Gevanni had already swapped the real notebook for a forged one, the “judgment” fails, and she survives as living proof Kira’s proxy was using a fake.
